Nicholas' 4th - The Final Chapter

Yes, yes, I know it's September. But since Nicholas didn't start school until the 29th, his teachers suggested we celebrate his birthday today. Nobody in our family will turn down a reason to eat cupcakes (OK, maybe Tom would), so Nicholas was all for it.

Nicholas designed these himself. Pink frosting with red and white sprinkles and baseballs/Cardinals hats. I think that represents him perfectly!

Yes, he's eating ice cream too. It was Ms. Brenda's actual birthday today. So everyone had ice cream, cupcake...or both. Nicholas chose both. :)

It's the class tradition for the Mom/Dad to read one of the child's favorite books to the class after snack. Nicholas chose "Zigby" which is a new favorite we borrowed from the library. They were obviously enthralled at my reading. During this time Tom was busy entertaining Charlotte who did pretty well. Ms. Sally gave her a graham cracker and all was right in the world. It's also the tradition that the birthday child gets to be "line leader", a responsibility that Nicholas adores, both at school and at home. Whenever we need him to go upstairs, we just say "I get to be line leader!" and he immediately runs to us - "No, I get to be line leader". Works like a charm every time!

After school, we had lunch down the street at the Canyon Cafe (a favorite of ours). Nicholas, who has been obsessed with both taking pictures ("Smile everybody!') and reviewing them on the camera, took this one of us.

A little better one of Charlotte. A side note - Nicholas has taken to calling her "Charlotte Cookie". No idea why.

On the way to the car after lunch, we saw an orange Corvette! That's one of Nicholas' favorite cars. Although I must say that his "favorites" are basically all the cars he can identify by sight - Corvette, Mini Cooper, Smart Car, MDX. But a whole heck of a lot of cars seem to be called "Corvettes". Anything remotely sporty seems to lump into this category. He may be able to identify golfers and baseball players...but cars are not his strong suit! (His cousin, Henry, is a complete car savant and would be very disappointed!)

So that's all folks. Nicholas' extended birthday celebration is officially over (except for thank you notes!). He's already talking about when he turns five!
