I started in Kindergarten, playing all kinds of games with Charlotte like the Coin Exchange Game, which apparently everyone but me has already heard of. My competitive daughter (hmm...wonder where that came from??) smoked me twice.
Then it was time to trade and I left Charlotte with Tom and went to watch (and play) Multiplication Hockey in the 3rd grade area. It's basically a game where two contestants face off responding to a called out multiplication problem (0x0 thru 12x12). The fastest player wins and the other player sits and sends out another teammate to compete. Last team with players in the game wins. (If you're very, very interested in this, here is a link to the match Nico's class had against a 4th grade class a few weeks ago). My favorite part of it is that the kids are cheering each other on and really excited to win...a math game! The hero becomes not the most athletic or popular kid...but the one who is the best at math. Fantastic. During the 3rd grade tournament last week, Nicholas' class had come in a very close second (out of four classes), but tonight it was kids versus adults. And Nicholas was on fire.
At the end of the night, Nicholas and I headed down to the Kindergarten area and found Tom being measured in craft sticks. What a dad.
The kids are already pumped for next year!
