Saturday Baseball - Our First Away Game

Nicholas' AISB baseball team has been invited to play a few Hungarian Little League teams around Budapest.  This is more than we hoped for moving here.  We were not expecting baseball at all!  But Hungary isn't exactly a baseball mecca, so there aren't baseball fields for all the teams to use.  Today was our first away game.

"If you build it..."  It doesn't actually require much.  Take a soccer field, toss down some chalk, some bases and an orange construction fence to mark the outfield, and you can play ball.

They were gracious hosts...and they beat us!  Just goes to show that it's not about the facilities.  That's a lesson that's really hit home here.  Stripping things down to the basics.  It's not about the field, the equipment (most kids on our team don't even have their own glove, let alone a bag full of gear like we all do in the States)  It's just about the spirit of the game.  We may not speak the same language, but sport brings us together.  Sounds sappy, but it's true!
