"Palm" Sunday

Growing up in the Southwest, palm trees were a common site.  It wasn't exactly a hardship to acquire branches for Palm Sunday.  Not the case here!  So Palm Sunday in Hungary does not involve palm branches.  It involves pussy willows.  I've since found out that this is common in many European countries.  In fact, Palm Sunday is called "Willow Sunday" in many places.  Before mass this morning we gathered in the courtyard outside our tiny chapel, the children waving their twigs, and processed in.  Wherever you are, whatever you are carrying, the message is the same.  The joy of Easter is a week away!
